Hillfort of Muro do Búbal
The hill where the fort is located is between the river Búbal or Buble (that defends it from the south) and the river of Porto do Rei (slightly narrower, which defends from the north), at a height of about 630 metres above sea level. It is a large fort located between the par-ishes of Videferre (Oímbra) and Medeiros (Monterrei) which has extraordinary natural de-fences. The major axis (SW-NE), has a maximum length of 178 meters and is clearly in a plateau shape, presenting total dimensions of approximately 1,7 hectares. The minor axis (SE-NW) reaches a maximum width of approximately 118 m.
The natural access to the fort is located in the West sector, between two small natural ele-vations of 632 m (North) and 620 m (SW) of height respectively that force access to the village through a winding road that facilitates its control and defence.
There are bases of constructions, and the most outstanding of all, is one of oval form at-tached to the wall located to the east of the fort; this construction, defined by a heavily col-lapsed wall of a length of approximately 65 m, delimits an area of about 290 square me-ters.
